Motherhood

The rain is pouring,
purging the sweat and the tears
that should have fallen in spring

Board games and bored children -
We have cabin fever
and roasted rainbow for dinner

Aeons ago I was dreaming
of giant planets
falling out of their orbits

The storm makes
the trees dance
and the droplets imponderable

There is me, wearing
a crown of red carnations
and some giant books

she holds my hand tight
marching to the cake shop
to have silence with whipped cream

Low clouds fly along the hills
nursing the city with water and blues
flooding the streets with abuse

I will always question my kindness
and doubt my worthiness
while loving my own children
